Mitakon 1-5X macro

This is a test for the Mitakon 55mm f 2.8 1-5X macro lens.

This shot shown is taken for a hard drive circuit board with the insert showing a small resistor magnification at approx. 7x. This was achieved by adding a Nikon PK13 extension tube to the camera for additional magnification above 5x. Exposure was set at approx. f3 (somewhere between between f2.8 and f4)

The camera used was a Nikon D810 with a 36MP sensor.

Minimal post enhancements were done, primarily increasing contrast slightly, and increasing exposure by 1/2 a stop. The front-mounted LED light supplied with the lens was used as the primary source of lighting. The camera was tripod mounted.

I have seen some reviews on how the lens is very soft or unusable at 5x. But is find it to be acceptable if you keep the aperture between 2.8 and less than 5.6.

Screen resolution may not show all the details, but I think the lens did a very good job, especially at 7x.
